The Garmin-Asus nuvifonc G60 is a dedicated GPS device with phone functionality. The G60 comes with a 3.5-inch resistive touchscreen. The phone is a little bulky and comes in a soft touch plastic finish. The Nuvifone despite the focus on navigation falls under the smartphone category. It comes with add-on accessories like the car holder and car charger. The G60 has a very smooth look outside with just a few control buttons. The left panel has the microSD slot with a steel cover matching the rim design. Below the expansion slot is the connector port for the car holder. At the bottom is the micro USB port for charging and data connectivity. The right side has the volume rocker on the top and the camera key at the bottom. The back side houses the speaker grill and below that is the 3.2-megapixel camera. On the left side of the back is the hole for gripping the phone onto the car holder. On the top is the screen lock-cum-power button, also there is a dedicated 2.5mm jack for the headphone. Features And Apps This Linux-based smartphone also offers basics such as E-mail, calendar and document viewing. It even comes with an HTML web browser and all wireless options, including Wi-Fi and GPRS. The 3.5-inch screen with a resolution of 272x480 is decent enough to give sharp.images and text. The G60 comes with an adjustable screen mode through which users can choose from day and night map colours or simply set it to auto, which will adjust accordingly. The screen orientation (accelerometer) transition could have been smoother. The G60 has a very user-friendly interface. The large 3.5-inch screen is divided into two portions ? the left side has three icons for calling, search and viewing maps. On the left is a sliding menu where all other applications line up and can be accessed by sliding vertically or horizontally depending on the screen's orientation. Though the device comes with almost all navigation features it lacks social networking apps like Facebook, MySpace and also office applications. Rut these are free apps, which can be downloaded and installed any time. The G60 lacks a dedicated home key ? users will have to regularly tap the back key to go to the start/home screen. It also has a virtual QWERTY keypad, but thats pretty much it. Users can add multiple E-mail accounts and get latest updates on the weather and a card scanner for scanning contacts into the contact list. The name card scanner works smoothly but one can never say its accurate as the final scanned result depends on the card layout, which is very dynamic. The Nuvifone also includes Ciao!, a location based application that helps users stay up to date with their friends by linking numerous location-centric social networks. Users can also choose to automatically update their location. Fun Side The Asus Garmin Nuvifone G60 has a decent 3.2 megapixel camera. However, the default setting cannot be changed. Pictures can be geo-tagged. Taking pictures is quite fun but one has to be satisfied with the functionality provided. The G60 lack video recording and the camera also has a limited function. The music player is quite basic with no presets. Users can simply play and listen to the music. The sound is of a decent quality.Connectivity options include tri-band 3G and quad-band 2G. EDGE and GPRS support are pretty good and fast. Dual channel Wi-Fi (802.11b/g)is also present. A single charge of the battery lasts a day and a half. This includes average talk time and navigation. The usage of the navigation feature decides the life of the battery. Overall, the G60 gives a decent performance but lacks some smart-phone features.
