Pool tables say things, they talk: if you'd just bother to listen! They say things to other people, about you, and again, if you listen, they'll tell you things about other people too. - All different kinds of things that can be used for various purposes: their value depending on your agenda. Also, pool tables show you things, if only you'd just open you eyes, and watch. They show you things by the way that people posture themselves around them. They ponder the human condition from shyness to arrogance, and intercept and interpret its value in terms of integrity. Every successful hustler has to have an almost instinctive sense of what is perceived as right or wrong, and weak, and strong. Regarding 'them' as more than just inanimate objects of furniture will serve you well. Pool is a game that measures the hustler in you. During that moment of engaged play you need to think like a hustler, in order to win. Successful Hustling requires articulate observation of others, and critical awareness of oneself. Pool tables express themselves then through both speech and activity in very much the same way as would a yogi. - '... You're and observer; not a participant!' The language of tables is simple in its essence. The way that people lean over them, or even better yet, lean against them, is telling. Whether a person would stand with their feet together, or apart, will give you an idea of the possible things that you could say that might gingerly upset them and put them off their game. The matter of whether they interact with the table (... Or any furniture for that matter, that happens to be surrounding the table) and remain physically balanced, will tell you about their experience of the game. No matter what anybody tells you, remember that people are never what they seem to be: they're all liars! Furniture, however, doesn't lie. - It exposes people for the thieving whores, or the blatant fools that they really are. - And furniture does it subtly too, especially gamming tables, as competition always brings out the best in us, especially a competition that measures the hustler in you. The rectangular shape of the table also offers interesting options in terms of controlling the game. For example: it would not be considered polite to stand behind some one who is shooting a ball. To stand on the side of them though, would be most polite (... If it serves you of course to be polite). - Standing in front of them then, would serve as both polite, and intimidating. If you yourself though, don't want to be interpreted by the table; the secret is to languish. It's the pool player's equivalent to the card player's poker-face. Look the word up in a dictionary and work it out for yourself. If you want to be successful with pool tables, you've got to communicate with them. The thing is that it's not about whether life and art imitate each other, it's about the fact that life and art are both artificial. Pool tables: when carefully watched, and listened to, will teach you valuable lessons for life! (... And art too, if you really want) - As long as you learn to successfully, languish around them.
